P!nk Named U.K.'s Most-Played Female Artist This Century

After being an Icon Award recipient at the 2021 Billboard Music Awards, P!nk has now been named the most-played female artist in the United Kingdom this century.

The PPL (Phonographic Performance Limited) published a report stating P!nk leads a Top 10 dominated by U.S. artists. The report is based on exclusive music usage and airplay data from radio stations and television channels in the U.K. and comes just before National Album Day (Oct. 16).

Six other American singers also managed to crack the Top 10, including Madonna and Katy Perry, who come in at No. 2 and 3 respectively. Rihanna (No. 4), Lady Gaga (No. 5), Beyoncé (No. 7), Kylie Minogue (No. 8), and Whitney Houston (No. 10) follow suit. Adele (No. 6) and Little Mix (No. 9) are the only two homegrown artists within the Top 10.

With all the records and honors P!nk has in the U.K., it's no wonder she's #1 on the PPL's Top 10. In her astounding career so far, she's racked up 36 Top 40 hits in the U.K., including three No. 1s, for 2001’s “Lady Marmalade,” 2002’s “Just Like a Pill” and 2008’s “So What.” She also has 10 Top 10 album titles in the U.K., according to the OCC, including three leaders: 2008’s Funhouse, 2017’s Beautiful Trauma, and 2019’s Hurts 2B Human.

Even more, her studio albums have accumulated 13 Platinum awards in the territory and, at the 2019 BRIT Awards, she was awarded the Outstanding Contribution to Music.

Peter Leathem, Chief Executive Officer at PPL, said in a statement: “National Album Day is a fantastic platform to showcase the importance of the album format and PPL is proud to be part of the celebrations this year with our chart of the century’s most played female artists. This chart brings together an incredible array of talent who have recorded some of the UK’s favourite music, including a number of the biggest and most influential albums of all time.”
