Denzel Curry has returned. The Florida rapper has revealed his next album, Melt My Eyez See Your Future, and announced the news with a Western-style trailer.
The trailer features Curry - dressed like Clint Eastwood from The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly - walking slowly through a vast desert. A harpischord-sounding track is scored over his movement. The clip ends with the album's title and a list of credits. The credits announce contributions from T-Pain, Thundercat, Rico Nasty, 6lack, J.I.D, slowthai, Robert Glasper, producer and prior Curry collaborator Kenny Beats, and others.
Kenny Beats and Curry last linked up in 2020 for the release of their joint album Unlocked. It was followed by another remix album, Unlocked 1.5 last year. Melt My Eyez See Your Future is Curry’s first solo effort since Zuu, which was released in 2019. Curry's been keeping busy, dropping singles throughout 2021 including “Bad Luck” for DC Comics’ Dark Knights: Death Metal soundtrack and “The Game” for Madden NFL 22‘s soundtrack.
While Curry hasn't revealed a release date for the new album, he did take to Instagram Live to answer questions about the record for fans. He said the album will be a "new era" for him and sound-wise, will be on "the softer side of things."
"I like traditional hip-hop, I like drum and bass, I like trap, I like poetry, I like all those things," he said, "so a lot of that stuff is going to be interwoven into this album, including jazz. Like, a lot of that. Like, basically genres that I came up on just as a kid and just being in my parents' household. Like, all that stuff is going to interwoven in this album. Everything that I was actually into that I couldn't give you on Ta13oo or Imperial because I was going through depression, anger issues, and whatever the case may be, like, you're going to get on this album."
In other Curry news, the artist was recently featured in the Powers Pleasant music video "Evil Twin."
