Dinosaur Jr. Share Details of New Album and Fall Tour Dates

Dinosaur Jr. have announced their first LP in five years. It's called There Near, and will be the follow-up to 2021’s Sweep Into Space. The LP is set for release on August 28, a month before the boys kick off the second half of their 2026 tour with Detroit indie rocker Stef Chura.

“I'm not always sure what a song is 'about' when I'm writing it,” guitarist J Mascis said in a statement accompanying the announcement. “I guess the meaning will present itself at some point. I'll use whatever words work. And a lot of it will be influenced by whatever esoteric mumbo jumbo I'm reading at the time. I try not to think too hard about any of it. I think it's a drag that Spotify shows all the lyrics to a song. What's the fun of that?”

To tease There Near, Mascis, Murph, and Lou Barlow have dropped a lead single. Titled "Several Got Away," the track is an alt-rock romp with blazing guitar riffs. Echoing what Mascis said to the press - the official lyrics to the track are unreleased.

The band has also dropped a music video to accompany the new single. The visual starts off with Mascis, Murph, and Barlow posing for a drab photoshoot. Suddenly, a pair of fiery hands starts wreaking havoc from the skies. The boys run away, while also rocking their instruments in angel costumes.

In other Dinosaur Jr. news: J Mascis and Mike Watt recently swapped cover songs, and back in 2025, the band teamed up with indie darling Snail Mail for a short summer tour.
