Dolly Parton to Release First Novel 'Run, Rose, Run' with Companion Album

With achievements in both the music and cinematic world, Dolly Parton is now dipping her toes into the world of literary fiction. The artist announced Wednesday (Aug. 11) she co-wrote a thriller novel with best-selling author James Patterson titled Run, Rose, Run.

According to a tweet by Patterson, Run, Rose, Run is "about a young singer/songwriter on the rise and on the run...and determined to do whatever it takes to survive!"

To pen the novel, Patterson drew from his experience writing engaging characters and plots, while Parton shared her experience in the music industry.

James Patterson is the author behind the Alex Cross series, The Red Book, Along Came a Spider, and other best-selling titles. According to the novel's website, it is 448 pages long and follows the journey of a rising star as she moves to Nashville in pursuit of her career, hoping her dark past ultimately doesn't catch up to her.

This isn't the first time Patterson has worked with a high-profile figure to co-write a book. In 2018, Patterson teamed up with Bill Clinton to release The President Is Missing. In June of this year, they released a sequel: The President's Daughter. For Parton, this marks her first venture into fiction, although previously she has penned nonfiction works such as memoirs and collections of her songwriting.

Even more, a companion album featuring 12 original songs inspired by Run, Rose, Run have been written, produced, and performed by Parton. The Run, Rose, Run LP will be released on Parton's Butterfly Records in partnership with another to-be-determined label.

"The mind-blowing thing about this project is that reading the novel is enhanced by listening to the album and vice versa," Patterson told People. "It's a really unique experience that I know readers (and listeners) will love."

Both the new novel and companion album will be released on March 7, 2022. The book will be published by Little, Brown and Company. You can find more information and pre-order here.
