Lil Nas X Announces Debut Studio Album 'Montero'

After two years of chart-topping success with "Old Town Road" and "Montero (Call Me By Your Name)," Lil Nas X has finally stated a debut studio album is on the horizon.

The record will be called Montero. While there is no release date yet, a new minute-long trailer for the album - which parodies the opening title sequence of Marvel movies - has been shared.

Lil Nas X released his debut EP, 7, in June 2019, following the massive success of his “Old Town Road” remix with Billy Ray Cyrus. Despite the EP only having 8 tracks, it was nominated for the 2020 Grammy Award for Album of the Year.

Since issuing 7, which includes “Panini” and the Cardi B collaboration “Rodeo,” Lil Nas X has shared “Holiday,” “Sun Goes Down,” and his recent hit song "Montero." The 22-year-old continues to push boundaries with the latter track. The iconic music video for "Montero" features Lil Nas X pole dancing down to hell and seducing and dethroning the devil, while his Egyptian-themed BET performance on Sunday ended with a steamy kiss with one of his background dancers.

While the music video for "Montero" has become something of a pop culture phenomenon, Lil Nas X told Variety he has bigger plans for a crazier music video.

“I want to do something in a different lane that’s crazier,” Lil Nas X said of what he envisions for his next music video. “I’m not sure what yet…But that’s for when I make a main single or something.”

In other music video news, Lil Nas X recently made an appearance in Brockhampton’s music video for “Count on Me.”
