Amy Winehouse to Be Subject of New Exhibition at London's Design Museum

Amy Winehouse is being honored with a new exhibition at the London Design Museum, which will commemorate the 10-year anniversary of her death.

The retrospective exhibition, titled Amy: Beyond the Stage, will open at the Design Museum on November 26. It aims to celebrate “a cultural icon that the world lost too soon," and will include previously unseen personal items and a selection of her outfits and fashion accessories. Among the personal items will be her first electric guitar, teenage notebooks, photographs, and handwritten lyrics.

Additionally, the exhibition will feature an experience of a studio space inspired by Metropolis Studios: where part of her 2006 album Back to Black was recorded. An animated experience by Studio Moross will conclude the exhibition, with multiple computer-generated figures of Winehouse in an immersive semicircular space.

According to a press release, the collection of items will “explore the creative process, powerful music and unforgettable style of a musician whose work drew a unique line between genres such as jazz and R&B, through to artists such as The Ronettes and Mark Ronson, designers such as D&G, Moschino and more.”

Winehouse’s close friend and stylist Naomi Parry worked with Winehouse's family and the Design Museum curators “on this never-before-seen showcase of how [Winehouse] combined music and design to create her look, style and voice."

“I was determined to make an exhibition about Amy happen because I had seen first-hand how she became a global icon,” Parry said in a statement. “When I approached the museum to realise this ambition they immediately understood that looking at Amy through her creative legacy would create an unforgettable exhibition experience."

“Often the portrayal of Amy is focused on the negative aspects of her life, while this exhibition will take visitors through all that she achieved and highlight the incredible mark that she left on the lives of her fans all around the world.”

To celebrate the anniversary of Amy's birthday and the launch of the exhibition, a hand-painted mural designed by Studio Moross will be displayed for two weeks until September 28 at 171 Camden High Street.

You can purchase tickets for Amy: Beyond the Stage on the London Design Museum website. Members can go to the exhibition for free.
