Meek Mill formally announced Wednesday afternoon (Sept. 15) his fifth studio album, Expensive Pain, will drop Oct. 1.
The album will feature his recent singles: "Sharing Locations" with Lil Baby and Lil Durk, and "Blue Notes 2" featuring Lil Uzi Vert. The latter serves as a sequel to Meek Mill’s “Blue Notes” from his DC4 mixtape.
Expensive Pain will be the follow-up to his 2018 Grammy-nominated album Championships - which was the artist's comeback effort after serving time in prison for violating his probation in 2017. It featured contributions from JAY-Z, Drake, Cardi B, Future, Anuel AA, and Ella Mai, and went on to debut at No. 1 on the Billboard 200.
The rapper also shared the cover for Expensive Pain: a geometric work inspired from an original painting by renowned artist Nina Chanel Abney. He confirmed the influence of Abney in a tweet to a fan.
In other Meek Mill news, the rapper was recently honored with the Nelson Mandela Changemaker Award by PTTOW! (Plan to Take on the World). The award honored him for his altruism and social work with REFORM Alliance. Meek serves as the organization's co-chair alongside his friend and Philadelphia 76ers partner, Michael Rubin. He celebrated the award by dropping a visual for “Mandela Freestyle.”
