Every December, Canadian singer-songwriter Mac DeMarco gives fans a cover of a classic Christmas song. In 2020, it was "Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas." Last year, it was "I'll Be Home For Christmas." Now, DeMarco is back with a new rendition of “It’s Beginning to Look a Lot Like Christmas.”
As per DeMarco's tradition, the roughly two-minute track arrives with a new music video. This one finds DeMarco and Dan McNeill riding around Los Angeles on motorcycles while wearing inflatable costumes of Santa Claus and a gingerbread man.
“Happy holiday season in 2022,” the singer wrote to fans in the video’s caption. “I care about you, I miss you, I think of you always. Merry Christmas.”
Other Christmas songs DeMarco has covered include "Santa Claus Is Coming to Town", "The Christmas Song," and "Wonderful Christmastime." You can find a playlist of all his yuletide renditions on SoundCloud. In music videos, DeMarco seems to have a penchant for inflatables, as last year's cute video for "I'll Be Home For Christmas" followed an inflatable Christmas tree as it looked for a home across a city. The year before that, his video for "Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas" showed off a blow-up Santa.
Besides annual Christmas songs, DeMarco's had some activity here and there. His latest album, Here Comes the Cowboy, dropped back in 2019. Earlier this month, he joined Domi & JD Beck on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, performing “Two Shrimps.” He also participated in Band Shirt Day this year alongside Blondie and King Gizzard & the Lizard Wizard.
