Metallica to Mark 'Black Album' 30th Anniversary Reissue with Podcast

Not only will Metallica celebrate the 30th anniversary of The Black Album with a box set and tribute album next month, but they'll also be marking the milestone with a new podcast.

The band announced the podcast, aptly titled The Metallica Podcast, on Twitter with a teaser. "Coming soon... The Metallica Podcast!" the group tweeted. "We’re starting with eight episodes taking a look behind the scenes at 'The Black Album.'" The teaser video reads “Volume 1: The Black Album,” possibly hinting that there may even be future seasons of the podcast diving into other albums.

“This album was the right combination of songs, right combination of producer with the right combination of desire, tenacity, [and] lineup of ideas,” drummer Lars Ulrich said in the teaser.

The Black Album was released on August 12, 1991, meaning the first eight episodes could be released as early as this week. Fans can subscribe to The Metallica Podcast on their preferred platform to be notified as soon as episodes go live.

On September 10, Metallica will continue the celebration of their self-titled record. They'll reissue the album in a number of different formats, including a massive box set featuring 2 LPs, a picture disc, 3 live LPs, 14 CDs, 6 DVDs, a hardcover book, and more. On top of that, they'll release The Metallica Blacklist, a 53-track album featuring popular artists delivering covers of their favorite Black Album songs. Artists include Miley Cyrus, Alessia Cara, Weezer, Phoebe Bridgers, Cage the Elephant, and Mickey Guyton. Pre-orders for both releases are available here.
