It's been a couple weeks since Mitski released her newest album Laurel Hell to the world. On the latest episode of Jimmy Kimmel Live!, the theatrical singer performed the album track "Stay Soft" for a studio audience.
In a long white dress and barefoot, Mitski sang "Stay Soft" with striking choreography. Unlike performances earlier in her career in which she would play a guitar or bass, she utilized the entire space and movement to emphasize the song's lyrics.
The song - along with the rest of her sixth studio album - was released on February 4. As for visuals connected to the album, Mitski has shared a music video for "Stay Soft," as well as videos for “The Only Heartbreaker,” “Heat Lightning,” "Working for the Knife," and “Love Me More."
Laurel Hell became the best-selling album in the United States for the second week of February, debuting at No. 1 on Billboard’s Top Album Sales chart (dated February 19). The record also debuted at No. 5 on the Billboard 200. According to MRC Data, 24,000 copies were sold in the U.S. in the week ending February 10. Billboard notes it’s Mitski's best sales week to date, as well as her first top 10.
In other news, the artist is currently playing her sold-out tour and is set to open for Harry Styles on the U.K. leg of his summer tour. You can join waitlists for Mitski's trek via her website, and purchase your tickets for Harry's performances here.
