Taylor Swift Releases Her Latest Album 'Midnights'

It's all anyone's been talking about on the internet: Taylor Swift has finally dropped her 10th studio album, Midnights.

Midnights is Swift’s first all-new LP since she released Evermore and Folklore in 2020. The album was released – at midnight, no less – on October 21. Swift previously announced the album while accepting the trophy for Video of the Year at MTV’s 2022 Video Music Awards in August. In the weeks leading up to the release, she teased the record's tracklist with TikToks.

In addition to the Lana Del Rey collaboration “Snow on the Beach,” Midnights features production and instrumentation from Swift’s longtime collaborator Jack Antonoff, as well as contributions from Zoë Kravitz and Joe Alwyn (under his pseudonym William Bowery). There are also contributions from Jahaan Sweet, Sam Dew, Sounwav, Evan Smith, Mikey Freedom Hart, Sean Hutchinson, Michael Riddleberger, and Zem Audu.

The Swiftie mania around the album is intense. Before the clock could even strike midnight on October 22, Midnights became the most-streamed album in a single day in Spotify history. Three hours after releasing Midnights, Swift unveiled a “special very chaotic surprise” she promised: a “3am Edition” of the album, featuring seven songs made “on the journey” to the proper album. It features three songs with Aaron Dessner, who worked closely on Folklore and Evermore, that do not appear on the main Midnights album.

“Midnights is a collage of intensity, highs and lows and ebbs and flows,” Swift wrote on Twitter shortly after the release of her new LP. “Life can be dark, starry, cloudy, terrifying, electrifying, hot, cold, romantic or lonely. Just like Midnights.” She added that the record “is a wild ride of an album and [she] couldn’t be happier that [her] co pilot on this adventure was @jackantonoff.” Swift continued, “He’s my friend for life (presumptuous I know but I stand by it) and we’ve been making music together for nearly a decade.” Swift also thanked many of her additional collaborators, such as Del Rey, Kravitz, and more.

Prior to releasing Midnights, Swift shared a teaser trailer for the record’s upcoming music videos, which will include appearances from Laura Dern, Jack Antonoff, Haim, John Early, Mike Birbiglia, and Dita Von Teese.

In other recent Swift news, she shared a new song over the summer titled “Carolina” for Olivia Newman’s film adaptation of Where the Crawdads Sing. She is also still working on re-recording her albums, and recently submitted Red (Taylor's Version) for Grammy consideration.
