Taylor Swift's Eras Tour Comes to an End with Final Show in Vancouver

It's the end of an era. After nearly two years, five continents, 50 cities and 149 shows, Taylor Swift's record-breaking Eras Tour has finally concluded.

Swift played her final show of the marathon event on December 8 at Vancouver’s BC Place. It included an emotional goodbye to fans, wrapping up with the song “Karma.”

“I want to thank every single one of you for being a part of the most thrilling chapter of my entire life to date — my beloved Eras Tour!”, the singer said before performing the final song, according to a video posted by a concertgoer on X. The massive audience of Swifties also sang "Happy Birthday" to the artist, and Taylor broke down in tears, hugging her dancers while taking her final bow on night three.

Swift sold $2,077,618,725 in tickets, The New York Times reports via the musician’s production company, Taylor Swift Touring. That total makes the Eras Tour, by far, the highest-grossing tour of all time.

The tour, which featured songs from Swift’s 11 albums, or “eras,” was marked by friendship bracelets, a revolt against Ticketmaster, a record-setting concert film, and booming economies in nearly every city she ventured to. It also featured a blossoming romance with Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce, who appeared onstage in London and was mentioned in Swift’s “Karma” multiple times on the tour.

Even more, the tour helped introduce new projects for Swift. She somehow had time to offer her fans three new releases, including two “Taylor’s Version” re-recordings (Speak Now (Taylor's Version) and 1989 (Taylor's Version)) and a fresh album – The Tortured Poets Department – this year.

Swift began her Eras Tour in March 2023, in Glendale, Arizona. By the end of last year, it was reported that she had crossed the $1 billion threshold in ticket sales. That news arrived around the same time she was breaking box-office records for the Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour concert film. She more recently enjoyed commercial success with her new Eras Tour companion book, which sold 814,000 print copies during its launch week. The tome and her Tortured Poets Department: The Anthology vinyl and CD collections became 2024 Black Friday hits at Target.

So...what's next for Taylor Swift? The singer still has the 2025 Grammy Awards to attend, with her music being nominated for six awards. Since The Tortured Poets Department is nominated for Album of the Year, she now becomes the first woman to be nominated for Album of the Year at the GRAMMYs seven times.

Swift will likely release a behind-the-scenes movie of the Eras Tour, a theory shared by fans who have spotted camera crews following the singer and her family at concerts. In terms of cinematic ventures, Swift also has that promise of directing a feature film she has yet to fulfill.

And as for music, Swift still has more previous albums to re-record. It's even possible she might use her post-Eras Tour life to look at branching out into different genres of music.

"Taylor's last two albums were met with more tepid critical response than her earlier work...and my guess is Taylor will spend some time finding a new direction in songwriting," said Drew Nobile, an associate professor of Music Theory at the University of Oregon School of Music and Dance via Newsweek. "Doing The Eras Tour in the middle of her career... seems more like the end of something than part of an ongoing story, and anything that comes next might be seen as more of a coda," Nobile added, suggesting Swift might even "write a Broadway show."
