As I wrote last month, I am thinking of producing shows for syndication. After communicating with the extremely helpful Live365 technical staff I reached the conclusion, if I go ahead, to make it easier for Live365 stations, I will provide a csv file with the shows instead of a cue file. You can upload either type of file with a multitrack mp3. However, the csv file will have all the information required for the individual items in the multitrack mp3 entered automatically, while with a cue file, additional information would have to be added manually to each individual track by each station playing the show.
There is another project I am considering instead of producing shows for syndication, I'll make my decision which way to go before July 1.
However, I have questions for other station owners regarding syndicated programs. I will list my questions here, but I would appreciate it if you answered these questions on my anonymous survey here.
Here are the four questions:
1. Since there would be no cost for any of my syndicated shows, if I had a sponsor for the show (not ads) and mentioned 'this show is sponsored by xxxxx' with their short tagline, would that discourage you from playing the show?
2. My preference for producing syndicated shows is limited series (8 to 12 “episodes” each). Assuming the music is something you would play on your station, does this structure interest you assuming you get all “episodes” upfront so you can program it how you want (e.g. all in one day, all split over a weekend, one episode a week, etc.)?
3. Since many stations have 4 minutes of commercials an hour, and a top-of-the-hour event, which episode lengths, for an hour of programming, work for your station?
[NOTE – in the MultiTrack process on Live365 you can add an ad after any item in the MultiTrack]
[RECOMMENDATION– if you don't have a top-of-the-hour event or ads, I recommend having a promo (or promos) regarding other programs on your station to take advantage of the listeners of the syndicated show; you could also add an intro and outro and ask your listeners to vote on which song from the show they want you to add to the station's rotation – surveyplanet.com is free and what I use for my station.]
4. If I committed to an ongoing weekly syndicated show, what lengths of a show would you consider?
Now onto the music.
The indie artist I am featuring this month is Gavin Kaufman. Kaufman is a UK-based singer- songwriter, musician, producer, composer, and artist known for his emotive songwriting and diverse musical talents. You can contact him on Facebook.
