Young Thug Vows to Help African Immigrants Trapped in Ukraine

Young Thug has extended help to African immigrants who are currently trapped in Ukraine.

Following Russia's recent decision to attack Ukraine, Ukrainians - as well as people who immigrated to the country - are now trying to escape the war zone.

However, there are numerous reports of racial discrimination at the borders. African immigrants are being kept off buses and trains due to a “Ukrainians first” policy, which is prioritizing white Ukrainian citizens at the borders. Many of those struggling to escape are African students studying in Ukraine.

Korrine Sky, a student in Ukraine who helped coordinate escape routes for hundreds of African students trapped in the country, told Insider some have struggled to get transportation to the border.

"Some people have gone to get buses, but they're not allowing Black people basically onto the buses. They're prioritizing Ukrainians. That's what they say," Sky explained.

One African student who reached the Ukraine-Poland border tweeted that Ukrainian police and army were refusing to let Africans cross. He even included a video which showed authorities "threatening to shoot" African students as they tried to cross.

Responding to the racist policy, Young Thug shared his support for those African refugees trapped in Ukraine, writing on his Instagram Stories: “If some of my rap brothers are in I’m willing to help Africans get out of Ukraine however I can sense they not letting us pass...Whoever holds the info for these movements please contact me ASAP I’m ready.”

Many other music artists have spoken out in solidarity with the Ukrainian people, including Stevie Nicks, Barbra Streisand, Paul McCartney, Miley Cyrus, Rina Sawayama, Yungblud, Nicki Minaj, and Elton John.

If you would like to help Ukrainian refugees, you can do so through donations to Voices of Children, Care, and Razom for Ukraine.
