10 New Albums to Listen to in February 2023

January saw the release of some great albums, but February looks to be an extremely promising month in the music industry. It feels like we've been waiting forever to finally get to this point. From beloved rock acts to pop goddesses and electronic geniuses, there's going to be a lot of awesome new material to listen to during the shortest month of the year.

We can't wait to keep our headphones close to our ears throughout February. Below are our 10 most anticipated album releases this month. They cover a variety of genres, and all of the records below are listed in order of release date. Without further ado, below are 10 albums you'll love during this Valentine's Day season!

1. I and II - John Frusciante

We've always thought that Red Hot Chili Peppers guitarist John Frusciante is the epitome of cool. Last week (February 3), he put out a pair of albums called I and II, and the release is anything but lame. I is a vinyl-only record containing seven tracks, while II is a digital and CD release featuring more material. The reason why II has more tracks? Frusciante has explained II contains "sounds that cannot be pressed on vinyl."

Frusciante describes the albums' personalities as contrasting with the structured rock songs he contributed to while working on the Red Hot Chili Peppers' Unlimited Love and Return of the Dream Canteen. In fact, he's listed Jimi Hendrix's ...And the Gods Made Love and the ambient music of Brian Eno as influences. Frusciante didn't provide fans with any singles before the release of I and II, so if you choose to listen to these albums, you'll be going in without any expectations.

2. Queen of Me - Shania Twain

Shania Twain made a glorious comeback last year, especially with the romantic pop single "Waking Up Dreaming": her first new song in 5 years. Before she heads out on tour this April, she's got some album promoting to do. She just released her sixth studio album Queen of Me on February 3.

The record is her first album since 2017's Now, and is her first to not be released with her previous label of 29 years, Mercury Nashville. Before it even dropped, it received very positive reviews, with Ed Power of the Irish Examiner claiming "the “Shania-issance” is in full swing." Whether you prefer her country or pop songs more, you'll be pleased to know there's a hearty mix of both on Queen of Me.

3. This Is Why - Paramore

FINALLY. Ever since the band announced they were back in the studio around January 2022, we've been eagerly awaiting their comeback record and sixth studio album This Is Why. If the three singles they've released so far are any indication of the project as a whole, we know this effort is going to be socially relevant, experimental, Bloc Party-esque, and so guitar-heavy that it will make us nostalgic for the group's "Misery Business" days.

The LP will drop on February 10. We know all three members of the band have matured greatly since 2017's new wave album After Laughter, which is why we're so excited to hear This Is Why – an undoubtedly deeper and darker effirt. Their titular single for this project had vibes from their self-titled album, while "The News" felt like something from Brand New Eyes and "C'est comme ça" had a touch of After Laughter feel. That being said, we're sure This Is Why will be combining several eras of Paramore into one. It may be their most important album release yet.

4. The Jaws of Life - Pierce the Veil

This Is Why isn't the only album from a pop punk band we're being blessed with on February 10. That day, we're also getting Pierce the Veil's new record, The Jaws of Life. It will be the fifth studio album from the band, and the first without drummer Mike Fuentes.

The record's lead single "Pass the Nirvana" has done extremely well both critically and commercially. The second single, "Emergency Contact," was released in November on the day of the album's announcement, while the third single, "Even When I'm Not With You," was dropped in January. It's going to be difficult to top 2016's Misadventures. But even without their old drummer, we think Vic Fuentes, Tony Perry, and Jaime Preciado have the chops to pull it off.

5. Desire, I Want to Turn Into You - Caroline Polachek

We wish we could get a new Caroline Polachek album every month, but for now, we'll gladly settle for the February 14 release of Desire, I Want to Turn Into You. According to our research, no other major artists are dropping projects on Valentine's Day. So if you don't have any plans that evening, we highly suggest cozying up with Polachek's latest album. It'll probably be a better experience than going on an overpriced date or eating a box of candy by yourself.

Ever since it was dropped, we haven't been able to get Caroline's sunny single "Welcome to My Island" out of our heads. "Bunny Is a Rider," "Billions," "Sunset," and "Blood and Butter" have also been phenomenal. Will this gutsy album be even better than 2019's Pang? We can't wait to find out.

6. Trustfall - P!nk

We're "Never Gonna Not Dance Again" once P!nk drops her ninth studio album, Trustfall, on February 17! We can't wait to see our dirty little freak pop queen back in action. When asked about the tone of the album, P!nk said she wasn't sure as it was in the "early days" but that Trustfall would be "very honest." Given her release of the single "Irrelevant" before announcing this album – her angry response to the overrule of Roe v. Wade by the U.S. Supreme Court – we can imagine she's not going to beat around the bush with this upcoming LP.

Trustfall is set to feature cameos from The Lumineers, Chris Stapleton, and First Aid Kit, and will include 13 tracks in total. Besides the funky "Never Gonna Not Dance Again," we're eager to hear what other tracks off this project will make it onto the radio.

7. Cracker Island - Gorillaz

Not only are we excited for Cracker Island because we're crazy about everything Gorillaz puts out, but also because this album is set to include some wicked collaborations. The title track of the album has an incredible feature from bass king Thundercat, while Stevie Nicks, Adeleye Omotayo, Tame Impala, Bad Bunny, Bootie Brown, and Beck will also be making appearances on the British virtual band's eighth studio album.

Besides the titular song, we've also been granted the singles "Silent Running" (featuring Adeleye Omotayo), "New Gold" (featuring Tame Impala and Bootie Brown), "Baby Queen," and "Skinny Ape." You'll have to wait until February 24 if you want to hear those highly-anticipated songs with Stevie Nicks and Bad Bunny.

8. Good Riddance - Gracie Abrams

We've been keeping our eyes on up-and-coming pop artist Gracie Abrams even before she was announced as an opening act for Taylor Swift's Eras Tour. On February 24, Abrams will finally be releasing her long-awaited debut studio album Good Riddance.

With contributions from The National's Aaron Dessner (also a frequent collaborator of Swift's), Good Riddance still has so many mysteries surrounding it – namely the number of tracks that will be present on the LP. The only taste of the album we have so far is the 4-minute single "Where Do We Go Now?" Just like other songs in Abrams' discography, it's vulnerable, sweet, and oh-so earwormy. We can't wait to see what other melancholy-yet-danceable tracks Gracie has in store.

9. College Park - Logic

Yet another album to be dropped on February 24 is Logic's upcoming record College Park. It will be the Maryland rapper's first release since going independent, and we're curious to see what his sound will be like now that he doesn't have Def Jam breathing down his back.

He shared an animated trailer last month for his “independent debut” and revealed the star-studded guest list including RZA, Redman, Joey Bada$$, Norah Jones, Bun B, Lil Keke, Statik Selektah, Seth MacFarlane, and more. “I love y’all and I’m making sh-- from the heart,” Logic told fans in a statement. “I’m loving hip-hop. I was not really feeling it for a while. I don’t really mean the music, I just mean the bullsh-- of the industry. But I realize now more than ever that none of that sh-- matters. I’ve missed you guys and I’m here and I just want to have fun and I’m so excited for College Park.” He recently released the single "Highlife," with a music video that features Jay, Silent Bob, and the Quick Stop store from Clerks.

10. Drive - Tiësto

Yes, February 24 is a really heavy album release date. Our final record on this list has to go to DJ Tiësto's upcoming LP Drive. It will be the Dutch dance music icon's seventh studio effort. The LP will feature 12 tracks and include a handful of Tiësto's recent hit singles, including "Hot In It" (with Charli XCX) and "The Motto" (with Ava Max).

Also included on the album will be Tiësto's recent single "10:35," with chart-topping songstress Tate McRae. Tiësto opened up about the album all the way back in July, describing it as a "complete new direction" and saying it'll heavily embrace house music. Fans hoping for a return to form – à la 2004's influential trance classic "Adagio for Strings" – will have to wait and see what the DJ has in store.
