Eddie Vedder Unveils Release Date for New Solo Album ‘Earthling’

Pearl Jam frontman Eddie Vedder has shared more details of his new solo album Earthling, which is set for release February 11 via Seattle Surf/Republic Records.

Earthling will be Vedder's first non-soundtrack solo album since Ukulele Songs in 2011. He has dropped the record's second single “The Haves” ahead of the LP's release. The new track follows on the heels of Vedder's first Earthling single, "Long Way," which was released two months ago.

"The Haves," which is accompanied by a lyric video, is also featured on the B-side of a previously announced seven-inch alongside "Long Way." That record is available via Pearl Jam's online store.

The album was recorded by Vedder’s new band the Earthlings, which includes former Red Hot Chili Peppers guitarist Josh Klinghoffer – a recent Pearl Jam recruit – and his ex-bandmate, RHCP drummer Chad Smith. The group of musicians also includes producer and guitarist Andrew Watt, known for his work with Ozzy Osbourne, California Breed, and others.

Vedder started working on the album when he visited his old friend Watt’s home studio in Los Angeles. “We just started messing around,” Watt told Variety about the single “Long Way." “There was something there right away that I wanted to chase and finish," he said. "It was just the right place and the right time and it all happened very organically. It sounds like people playing together in a room, which is what a good rock song should be.”

Just recently, Pearl Jam performed a show for the first time in 3 years, but Vedder kept himself busy during the break. He's been working on the soundtrack to the upcoming Sean Penn movie Flag Day alongside Glen Hansard, Cat Power, and Vedder's own daughter, Olivia. He's also recorded a cover of AC/DC's classic “Highway to Hell” with legends Tom Morello and Bruce Springsteen.

Finally, Vedder has an appearance on Elton John’s The Lockdown Sessions, which was released in October. He collaborates with John on the song "E-Ticket," which was produced by Andrew Watt.

You can pre-order Earthling in a variety of different formats here.
