Green Day are back! They have just announced their latest album Saviors, which is set for release January 19, 2024. It will be the follow-up to their 2020 LP, Father of All Motherf—ers…
The band recorded Saviors in London and Los Angeles with producer Rob Cavallo, who has worked with Green Day on Dookie, Insomniac, Nimrod, American Idiot, and Bullet in a Bible. This new LP marks the pop-punk group's fourteenth studio effort.

In a social media thread about the album, the band wrote “Saviors is an invitation into Green Day’s brain, their collective spirit as a band, and an understanding of friendship, culture and legacy of the last 30 plus years. It’s raw and emotional. Funny and disturbing. It’s a laugh at the pain, weep in the happiness kind of record. Honesty and vulnerability."
The statement continued into another post, "What is Saviors about, you ask? Power pop, punk, rock, indie triumph. disease, war, inequality, influencers, yoga retreats, alt right, dating apps, masks, MENTAL HEALTH, climate change, oligarchs, social media division, free weed, fentanyl, fragility,,..What would Andy Warhol do? What would John Waters do? What would Quentin Tarantino do? What would GREEN DAY do?”
Following the news of an album, Green Day just released a single from the project. It's a fiery track called "The American Dream Is Killing Me." Officially shared today (October 24), the members first teased the new track last week when they gave the then-unreleased song its live debut in an intimate Las Vegas show. Held at the 1,000-capacity Fremont Country Club venue, the gig served as a warm-up for their headline sets at When We Were Young festival this past weekend. They also played another song on Saviors, “Look Ma, No Brains!” live in concert.
According to a press release, “The American Dream Is Killing Me” was one of the last songs Green Day made for Saviors. “As soon we cut it, we said, ‘OK, that’s going first,’” singer Billie Joe Armstrong said in a press statement. He described the new song as “a look at the way the traditional American Dream doesn’t work for a lot of people – in fact, it’s hurting a lot of people.”
The new song comes with a a film noir-inspired visual accompaniment – directed by Brendan Walter and Ryan Baxley – which sees the band in the midst of a zombie apocalypse. You can feel the vintage Night of the Living Dead vibes as Billie Joe Armstrong sings, "When it's all double-talk of conspiracy / The American dream is killing me."
You can pre-order Saviors here. In other Green Day news, the band is going on a North American stadium tour next year with the Smashing Pumpkins as well as Rancid and the Linda Lindas.
