Kate Bush Shares Short Film & Says New Music Is On the Way

After her Stranger Things resurgence, Kate Bush is entering a new artistic era. The singer released a short film on October 25 that she wrote and directed herself. It's called Little Shrew (Snowflake) and is soundtracked by a new edit of her song “Snowflakes,” from 50 Words for Snow.

The four-minute visual is an animation, depicting a cute shrew searching for hope in a war-ravaged country. It ends with a request for donations to War Child – a UK-based charity that aids children in war-torn areas.

Bush told the BBC she started work on the film soon after Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. “I wanted to make a little animation that would feature, originally, a little girl,” she said. “It was really the idea of children caught up in war. I wanted to draw attention to how horrific it is for children. And so I came up with this idea for a storyboard and felt that, actually, people would be more empathetic towards a creature rather than a human. So I came up with the idea of it being a little shrew.”

Even more, Bush has hinted at new music she's working on. In that same BBC interview, Bush said she is “very keen” to record new music but has not yet started work on it. “I’ve got lots of ideas and I’m really looking forward to getting back into that creative space,” she said. “It’s been a long time.”

In other Kate Bush news, the singer was initiated into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2023 alongside Missy Elliott, the White Stripes, and more. More recently, a new trailer for the A24 movie The Legend of Ochi featured a TOTEM remix version of her song "Hounds of Love," and Halsey revealed a track off her latest album The Great Impersonator – "I Never Loved You" – was inspired by Bush.
