Lorde Drops 'The Path' Music Video for the Summer Solstice

It's been almost a year since Lorde released her third studio album Solar Power, but the singer/songwriter is still unveiling music videos to promote the project. Keeping to her original promise of dropping new music and visuals in time with the seasons, Lorde has released a new video for the track "The Path" to celebrate the summer solstice.

"The Path" is the opening track on Solar Power and talks about Lorde's past, the faults of celebrity culture, and how humans must look to nature for help. In the video, Lorde walks around the same secret island community we've seen in her other Solar Power videos – only this time, she starts off wearing a very corporate-esque blazer and baggy pants.

Lorde explained the visual's meaning in her newsletter: "On the occasion of the solstice, I wanted to share a sixth video with you, for THE PATH. This video is the first chapter in the mystical Solar Power story, a prequel to the title video," she said. "You see my character joining her friends and family on the island where they’ve chosen to start life anew, arriving in her trademark suit and quickly being transformed by nature’s strange magic. I’m so proud of my buds for learning the dance in this one. Hope you like it."

"The Path" is directed by Lorde herself and Joel Kefali. She has previously released videos for Solar Power tracks “Secrets From a Girl (Who’s Seen It All),” “Leader of a New Regime,” “Fallen Fruit,” “Mood Ring,” and the title track.

Lorde has still kept busy despite lots of time passing since her album release. In April, she covered Rosalía’s “Hentai," and in May, launched a new Sonos Radio station called Solarsystym. She is also still on her Solar Power world tour, and will continue to play shows across the globe until March 2023. You can find tickets here.
