Between Barbie being available on Max now and Kate McKinnon and Billie Eilish appearing on SNL the other day, our obsession with the plastic, fantastic doll has returned. Now, Ryan Gosling has released a holiday version of his Barbie ballad "I'm Just Ken" that's perfect to blast during your upcoming December celebration.
Gosling has teamed up with Mark Ronson and Andrew Wyatt for Ken the EP, which contains three new versions of the hilarious single. Most notably is the holiday-themed “I’m Just Ken (Merry Kristmas Barbie),” which comes with a video featuring footage of Gosling, Ronson, and Wyatt performing the song in a studio with a full orchestra.
Besides the original and Christmas versions of the song, Ken the EP features “I’m Just Ken (In My Feelings Acoustic)” and Purple Disco Machine’s remix of the song. It’s out today, December 20th.
The original version of “I’m Just Ken” features contributions from rock legends like Slash, Wolfgang Van Halen, and Josh Freese. It peaked at #87 on the Billboard Hot 100, while also reaching #5 on the Hot Rock & Alternative Songs chart. It’s also nominated for Best Song Written for Visual Media at the 2024 Grammys. In fact, "I'm Just Ken" was among 11 nominations the Barbie soundtrack collected for the 2024 Grammys. Dua Lipa's "Dance The Night," "Barbie World" with Nicki Minaj and Ice Spice (featuring Aqua), and Billie Eilish's "What Was I Made For?" also earned nods from the Recording Academy.
