Sharon Van Etten Shares Music Video for New Song 'Used to It'

Sharon Van Etten has shared her second single of 2022. Titled "Used to It," the slow and dreamy track has a new video created by Van Etten's musical director and bandmate Charley Damski.

The visual features Van Etten alongside dancer and choreographer Hayden J Frederick in nostalgic old camera quality. Van Etten originally wrote “Used to It” for the 2020 HBO documentary Baby God, which follows a fertility specialist in Nevada who used his own sperm to inseminate his patients without their knowledge.

“Ultimately, the film team changed their musical direction, but I found myself welcomely challenged to the idea of writing a song about the concept of family, connection through blood, nature vs nurture, while attempting to incorporate ideas of love and the complexities of science and technology,” Van Etten said in a press release.

She continued: “I am grateful for this song to be able to have a new life, relating more to the times we have all been living through and redefining the meaning of this song by focusing on the positives of seeking connection and understanding what family means to the individual.”

Regarding the video for “Used to It,” Van Etten said, “Together, they [Damski and Frederick] helped me convey the feelings of internal struggles, while also finding space for oneself and embracing that pain in order to move on.”

In related news, Van Etten returned to the music scene last month with the song “Porta.” It was her first solo song since 2020’s “Let Go,” which she created for the documentary Feels Good Man. She is set to embark on a North American tour with Angel Olsen and Julien Baker in July. You can find tickets here.
