LOOKING FOR 100+ STATION OWNERS or LIVE365 SHOW HOSTS to be MUSIC REVIEWERS for MY PROPOSED BOOK
Basic marketing principles state that people need to see a marketing message a few times before it takes hold so I am testing that principle a little here by repeating the main topic from last month's column. If you are new to my column/blog, I am a business consultant who has written a book on, and teaches entrepreneurship, and have written about business topics for radio stations in prior columns.
I write my columns about a month in advance so the responses have only trickled in so far and I need a bunch. My proposed book will help:
- the reviewers by providing them with a credential and marketing via the information on their station/show in the book – and no written review is required, just grading each song proposed for the book
- radio stations find new artists/songs for their station in a time efficient manner – I get literally thousands of songs submitted to my station every month and can't listen to them all, and of the songs I listen to, only a fraction make it to the station
- music lovers efficiently and effectively find new favorite songs – the reviewers' music profiles in the book will allow them to take recommendations from reviewers with similar taste in music
- indie and small label artists find new fans of their music and additional radio stations that will play their songs – they can also match and submit their music to the stations in the book most likely to play their music
In order for me to write the book I need the book to offer value to readers. Therefore, I want a minimum of 100 reviewers and 175 different songs recommended across all reviewers. The book will ONLY include songs recommended. And in order to have a page in the book, the reviewer will have to listen and score all songs in the project – which could take 4 or 5 months (I will share about 60 songs a month until I reach or surpass the desired number of songs), but this should be fun. After all, it's just listening to music.
The genre for the music is new wave, alternative rock, adult alternative, mainstream rock, folk-rock, and pop. Keep in mind new wave included other genres such as grunge, punk, techno, reggae, and more. And I will go by individual songs so artists who classify themselves in other genres such as metal, country, R&B, etc. could have songs in the project as well.
If you're potentially interested in being a reviewer, please use the link below to answer a short survey to get on my contact list (just contact info and what rock genres you play) → https://s.surveyplanet.com/zphjj38o.
Thanks, and now onto the music (and since May has Mother's Day – this month's selections all have female singers).
“Heart Fulfilled” by Emery Pulse
Pulse relocated from Chicago to Florida. She is a fan of late 80s and early 90s music, and her songs reflect that influence. In fact, she has been described as Madonna meets Katy Perry. She is also one of us – she has a radio show on Marco Island's 98.1 FM.
“Cut to Black” by The Subtheory
You know I really like a band when they get a second song in my column. This song reminds me of the ethereal, female vocal-led songs of the 90s, only with a more modern feel. Loved those songs back then, love this band now. One of my current favorites.
“Drink Before the War” by Sinead O'Connor
This is an album cut from my favorite O'Connor album, The Lion and the Cobra, which was also her debut album. The album charted worldwide, reaching #27 in the United Kingdom and #36 on the US Billboard 200. If you like her music and are not familiar with this, listen.
“Blink of an Eye” by Berlin
This song is off Berlin's 2002 album Voyeur. Did you know that Terri Nunn read for the part of Princess Leia in Star Wars? In fact, her reading was with Harrison Ford. Nunn, who joined Berlin in 1978, left to pursue acting until returning in 1981.
“Love in the Shadows” by E.G. Daily
Guilty pleasure time. This is the special remixed version. Celion Dion covered this song, but Daily's was the original (and much better in my opinion). Daily was also an actress. She played the adorable Dottie in Pee Wee's Big Adventure and Phoebe's ex-singing partner in Friends (and sang “Smelley Cat”).
