Watch Usher Run Through His R&B Classics in Tiny Desk Concert

Usher made his Tiny Desk Concert debut a few days ago. Appropriately, the R&B singer serenaded the eager crowd with some of his greatest hits.

Usher brought his R&B A-game, performing his 1997 hit “You Make Me Wanna…,” “Superstar,” “U Don’t Have to Call” from 8701, “Nice & Slow,” “Confessions Part II,” and “My Way.” His backing band included vocalists Eric Bellinger and Vedo, bassist Dmitry Gorodetsky, trombonist Lemar Guillary, trumpeter Brandyn Phllips, saxophonist Jay Flat, keyboardist Darek Cobbs, guitarist Erick Walls, and drummer Ryan Carr.

The performance marked one of the first in-person Tiny Desk Concerts in more than two years after the series went "at-home style" due to the pandemic. While attendees at the Tiny Desk "office party" hooped and hollered, Usher expressed the joy he felt sharing his career-spanning material.

“This is Black magic right here,” he said to the audience. “I really, really am happy just to be able to celebrate all the years of music.”

Previous artists who have performed during Tiny Desk’s Black Music Month include FKA Twigs, Denzel Curry, Larry June, and more. You can watch the full lineup of Black Music Month artists here.

As for other Usher news, the artist was recently featured in the City Girls song and music video for “Good Love.” Usher also has a residency in Las Vegas taking place from July to October. You can find tickets here.
