Yeah Yeah Yeahs have shared a new music video for their Cool It Down song “Wolf.” Directed by Allie Avital, the visual stars Britt Lower from the Apple TV+ series Severance as a wife sorting through feelings of confinement, wildness, comfort, and intimacy. The clip also stars Will Brill from The OA.
The video was released as a Facebook exclusive for fans until today (October 31), when it was posted on YouTube. The visual starts out in a pristine dining room inside a house. Britt Lower's character sits with her husband at the table – until she sees a blue bird fly into the woods. She follows the bird and embraces the wilderness, dirtying up and gaining a wolf-like persona along the way.
“It was our great fortune to collaborate with the powerhouses Allie and Brit on this video for ‘Wolf,’” Yeah Yeah Yeahs’ Karen O said in a statement. “Allie casts a spell with the gorgeous world she weaves- always with teeth that bite, and Britt embodies all the contradictions in the themes of ‘Wolf,’ so enamored with her performance that’s got as much heaven as it does hell. We were beside ourselves with excitement when Allie cast Brit as the lead in the video, YYYs are serious nerds for Severance, what luck when the stars align.”
Cool It Down, released back in September, is Yeah Yeah Yeahs’ fifth album and their first in nine years, following 2013’s Mosquito. The LP includes the singles “Spitting Off the Edge of the World” and “Burning.” Recently, Yeah Yeah Yeahs stopped by Jimmy Kimmel Live! to perform the latter song from atop a crumbling block of lava.
