1 Dead and 9 Injured in Crowd Crush at GloRilla Show

A GloRilla show over the weekend ended in tragedy. A crowd stampeded toward the exits of a concert building in Rochester, New York, amid apparent fears gunshots had been fired. The chaos killed one person and injured nine others, according to various reports.

The crowd crush happened Sunday night (March 5) at Main Street Armory in Rochester, where rapper GloRilla was performing with Finesse2Tymes. Police found no evidence to support that a shooting occurred. Police officers have not yet released the name of the 33-year-old woman who was killed. Two people were left in critical condition.

Officers responded around 11pm to initial reports of gunshots fired inside, but later determined injuries weren’t consistent with gunshot wounds. “The injuries appear to be as a result of a large crowd pushing towards the exits following accounts of individuals hearing what they believed to be gunshots,” Rochester police Lt. Nicholas Adams said.

GloRilla responded to the horrific incident after midnight in a tweet in which she wrote, “I’m just now hearing about what happened wtf,” followed by three crying emoji, adding “praying everybody is ok [four prayer hand emoji].”

This recent crowd crush happens in the wake of Travis Scott's infamous 2021 Astroworld Festival disaster. That incident ultimately resulted in the deaths of 10 people. Several hundred more were injured at Astroworld, resulting in multiple lawsuits and a congressional investigation. Crowd crush incidents have become a more prominent concert safety concern since then – with artists stopping shows for fans' safety becoming a more frequent occurrence.
