Live365's "Featured Spotlight Station" this week is Daytona's Surf! We spoke with Nigel Hart about their setup, what listeners can expect to hear, and the station's favorite songs. Check out the interview below!
What brought you to Live365?
The station was on Live365 before, when the previous owners were around. So, we decided it might as well stay there as it's easy to find and access. The help to sort everything out was second to none. The team at Live365 is typically a very helpful bunch.
What's your studio like?
We actually run 4 studios. We have DS Control that Nigel owns and runs all station uploads and live broadcasts from. Dave, Sophie, and Tom have their own mini studios that they can go on-air and record shows with if they can't go live.
What can listeners expect when they tune in to your station?
We have 3 presenters in the UK and, at the moment, 1 in Florida. It's all music-based, specifically hits from the 70s to today, and the live shows are a bit nuts. We don't take ourselves too seriously, but don't think that it might sound like amateur hour. All the presenters have been in the game a long time. Nigel has been working in radio since the late 80s. Dave has been working with Nigel doing live shows for most of that time, so he now has his own show. Sophie is relatively new to radio, only being involved for about 10 years. We try not to be too local as we do have listeners all over the place, so we try as much as we can to involve everyone.
What has been your favorite moment as a DJ/Station Manager so far?
I enjoy having ownership over the station, so I get the say over what we do and do not broadcast.
What is the best concert you've ever attended, and why?
Hats Off to Led Zeppelin. I was the Front of House (FOH) Engineer for them. Yes, another string to the bow, I'm a live sound engineer too. We actually had Robert Plant in the audience at one show and Jimmy Page at another. Both shook my hand and said the band sounded great.
What artist (dead or alive) would you love to see live, but haven't had the chance to?
For me? Has to be Elvis Presley. Don't know about the others, but I'm sure they'll tell me...
We asked for some of the station's favorite songs. Here's what they had to say!
-
The Killing Of Georgie (Part I & II) - Rod Stewart
I don't know why, but this song has haunted me for years. -
Affirmation - Savage Garden
This is just an absolutely brilliant song. -
A Whistling Tune - Elvis Presley
This one's a happy tune for cheering everyone up. -
Show Me Heaven - Maria McKee
I heard this song and fell in love with it. -
I Spy for the DTI - Moronic Surveyors
Just because I'm on it...
