Featured Spotlight Station: HOUSE MUSIC 101 RADIO

Live365's "Featured Spotlight Station" this week is HOUSE MUSIC 101 RADIO! We spoke with Xavier Roberts about their setup, what listeners can expect to hear, and the station's favorite songs. Check out the interview below!

What brought you to Live365?

I've been an internet radio broadcaster since the year 2000 and was an original founding station of Live365 when this unique, one of a kind network began. I have a passion for the house music genre and it flows from me into the station on a daily basis. I am my station and the joy and feedback I receive from listeners drives that passion and energy to do more, obtain the best house music, and help each and every listener groove through their entire workday, evening, or weekend.

I'm thrilled to have an opportunity to be a part of Live365 and grow my station as well as meet listeners from around the world via email and social media. I am impressed how easy Live365 makes it to program a station and put a quality, world class product out there. I'm a stickler for quality, production, jingles, overall station imaging, logos, and social media presence, so I find today's Live365 a perfect match for what I'm working on and trying to accomplish with HOUSE MUSIC 101 RADIO.

Internet radio is an amazing platform to broadcast a station on. You can listen on the computer, phone, car, smart speakers, and many internet radio devices, anywhere and at anytime. Those options make this platform special and despite the challenging hurdles with high royalties and the DMCA, Live365 makes it easy to produce a world class station if you have a passion to curate the best music and meticulously work to program a station to attract music lovers.

I've caught my second wind and after what will be 20 years of HOUSE MUSIC 101 RADIO in 2020, I can say that my passion has only grown and my desire to put out the best possible product has reached all new heights.

What's your studio like?

I've just rebuilt my studio for upcoming podcasts, interviews, and the ability to take live in-studio phone calls while interviewing up to five people at the same time. The station uses a Rodecaster PRO mixing board, Rode Microphones, Rode PodMics, Pyle Boom Mic Arms, ADVpro studio "On Air" indicator light, Audio-Technica Professional Monitor Headphones, Tascam US-42 MiniStudio Creator with USB Podcasting Broadcast Audio Interface, and Allen & Heath ZEDi-10FX Hybrid Compact Mixer. I use Roxio Digital Media Suite products for sound and some production.

What can listeners expect when they tune in to your station?

When listeners tune in, they can expect to hear the newest house music releases, exclusive music direct from artists, classic house, old school club classics, and dance. It's an interactive station, so listeners are encouraged to email us and let us know what their favorite tunes and artists are.

What has been your favorite moment as a DJ/Station Manager so far?

The best moment was when I received an email from a dentist that said he plays my station in his dental office. I emailed him back and said, "Wow, I don't know if I should be excited or mortified." He said to be excited because his patients call him the dancing dentist because of the music. Turns out many of his patients agreed and he printed little flyers showing them how to listen to the station outside of his office.

What is the best concert you've ever attended, and why?

Martha Wash, the music system shorted out and she sang songs acapella and I was amazed at how awesome her voice sounded without any music backing her up. The music was eventually restored, but the concert amazed everyone there.

What artist (dead or alive) would you love to see live, but haven't had the chance to see?

Tony Momrelle, he simply has one of the most amazing vocal house music voices.

We asked for some of the station's favorite songs. Here's what they had to say!
