Featured Spotlight Station: That 70's Channel

Live365's "Featured Spotlight Station" this week is That 70's Channel! We got the chance to sit down with Bud Kress to talk about his station's setup, what listeners can expect to hear, some of Bud's favorite songs, and top songs played on the channel. Check out the interview below!

What brought you to Live365?
I started this journey more than 15 years ago. A coworker told about the original Live365. I found it to be fun and started playing the '70s music on my own station.

What's your studio like?
It's a simple setup. There's a standard EV RE-20 broadcast microphone and a Presonus Studio 2/6 Interface. I have a couple of computers and monitors, and the station software is in the cloud to maintain it's 24/7 uptime.

What can listeners expect when they tune in to your station?
We are very proud to bring you the very best Rock, Pop, Soul, Country, and Disco favorites. We also play the biggest hits of the '70s and more, along with a top 10 countdown daily. When you tune in you will hear one of your favorite songs from the '70s!

What has been your favorite moment as a DJ/Station Manager so far?
There have been many, however I really smile when I am wake up and say "Alexa, play station That 70's Channel!" That is so cool!

What is the best concert you've ever attended, and why?
Easy. ABBA at the Concord Pavilion in 1978. I was second row on the right side. Freida walked up to the rail and sang to me. Unfortunately I don't remember what she sang, but the experience was priceless, to be honest!

Second favorite would have to be Savage Garden at that same venue. I got the chance to meet them backstage and loved every second of the concert.

Live365 asked Bud for some of his favorite songs as well as a sample of what listeners will hear when they tune in. Here's what he had to say!

Some of my favorite songs would have to be the following:

  1. Close to You by The Carpenters
  2. I Saw the Light by Todd Rundgren
  3. Listen to What the Man Said by Paul McCartney
  4. Miracles by Jefferson Starship
  5. Mandy by Barry Manilow

The following top songs on the station have been continuous for more than 15 years:

  1. Looking Glass by Brandy
  2. Black Magic Woman by Santana
  3. Hotel California by The Eagles

Fleetwood Mac, Elton John, and Chicago round out as favorites and also get a lot of airplay. Now, you'd probably expect the most disliked song to be "You Light Up My Life" by Debby Boone, but it's actually "Roundabout" by Yes! We still play both, but "Roundabout" will always play on the station as it was my late best friend's favorite band and song, and hey! It's my station and I'll play what I want!
