Olivia Rodrigo is back! The music industry's latest pop princess has announced the follow-up to her hit 2021 debut, Sour. Her second album is titled Guts, and it drops September 8. The first single, “Vampire,” is out this Friday, June 30.
Rodrigo officially announced “Vampire,” her first solo single since Sour, earlier this month. Previously, she teased new music on the second anniversary of "Drivers License." She wrote "Vampire" and more of Guts with Daniel Nigro, a collaborator on the debut. CD and 7" single versions of the single will have a demo version as a B-side.

On the album cover, the “Drivers License” singer lies back on a dark purple floor wearing red lipstick and a lacy black dress, with four letter rings on her fingers spelling out “GUTS.” It's similar in style to the cover of Sour, which also featured a purple backdrop and presented letters as stickers on Rodrigo's tongue.
“For me, this album is about growing pains and trying to figure out who I am at this point in my life,” Rodrigo said in a statement. “I feel like I grew 10 years between the ages of 18 and 20 - it was such an intense period of awkwardness and change. I think that’s all just a natural part of growth, and hopefully the album reflects that.”
She also said: “I made the bulk of this album during my 19th year on this earth. A year that, for me, was filled with lots of confusion, mistakes, awkwardness & good old fashioned teen angst.”
Indeed, Rodrigo has been through a period of rapid change. She won the Grammy Awards for Best New Artist, Best Pop Vocal Album, and Best Pop Solo Performance in 2022. She also spent the year touring, speaking out to her audiences about abortion rights after the Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade (which led to a memorable performance of "F--k You" with Lily Allen.) It was also a year where she performed “Deja Vu” and “Uptown Girl” with Billy Joel, inducted Alanis Morissette into the Canadian Songwriters Hall of Fame, sang “Torn” with Natalie Imbruglia, and sang “You’re So Vain” for Carly Simon’s Rock & Roll Hall of Fame induction.
