Doja Cat Covers Hole’s 'Celebrity Skin' for Taco Bell Super Bowl 2022 Ad

Doja Cat is clowning around for this year's Super Bowl. The Planet Her singer stars in Taco Bell’s new commercial that will air during the fourth quarter of Super Bowl LVI.

In the visual — called “The Grande Escape” — Doja Cat leads an exodus from a humdrum clown college. It also includes her new cover of the iconic Hole song “Celebrity Skin.” According to a press release, Courtney Love helped Doja rework the lyrics. Besides the commercial, Taco Bell has also released a behind-the-scenes video showing the making of Doja's cover.

Doja Cat played the entire 30-second commercial on Instagram Live nearly a full day ahead of the brand’s planned Thursday afternoon debut. The clip was recorded by fans and promptly made its way to YouTube.

Although it's unclear if Doja's move was a scripted leak or not, the brand did have a statement when reached by news outlet Adweek: “Doja Cat is not one to follow rules and that’s what has made working with her so fun,” said Tracee Larocca, head of brand creative at Taco Bell. “We are excited to see the fan engagement play out through our spot on game day.”

In other Doja Cat news, the singer recently released the kooky sci-fi video for her hit song "Get Into It (Yuh)." She was also nominated for International Artist Of The Year and Best International Song ("Kiss Me More feat. SZA") at this year's BRIT awards. However, she had to withdraw her performance from the event due to members of her crew testing positive for COVID-19.
