Duran Duran to Return with 15th Studio Album 'Future Past'

Duran Duran is back after a six-year hiatus with a new studio album. Called Future Past, it is set to be a 12-track project and feature collaborations with Lykke Li, Blur’s Graham Coxon, and David Bowie pianist Mike Garson.

The album will be released in full October 22. A deluxe edition will contain three bonus tracks and access to a series of bundles - including coloured vinyl and artwork autographed by the band.

The first single off Future Past, "Invisible," is out now. It features Graham Coxon on guitar and comes ahead of the debut performance set for Sunday at the 2021 Billboard Music Awards (BBMAs). A dream-like music video for the single dropped this morning (May 19) and was created by an artificial intelligence named Huxley.

Frontman Simon Le Bon introduced "Invisible" on BBC Radio 2's The Zoe Ball Breakfast Show. “It kind of started with the beat,” he explained. “It’s got a very, very assertive drum track, it’s really all about the rhythm. I just had to fit in a melody around that, really.”

The song is about “a slightly disfunctional relationship,” Le Bon noted, where the person who is unable to get a word in figures... “maybe I’m just invisible.”

Le Bon highlighted one lyric from the song, “And the voiceless crowd ain’t backing down.” In the light of COVID-19 and “everything that’s been going on in the last year and a half really, with all the different public movements and all the noise people have been making,” he continued, “it suddenly sounded relevant in a much bigger way.”

Future Past is available to pre-order. Coxon will join the band onstage during their upcoming performance of "Invisible" at the 2021 BBMAs, taking place 8pm ET/5pm PT on Sunday, May 23 on NBC.
