Featured Spotlight Station: Racketeer Radio
Live365's "Featured Spotlight Station" this week is Racketeer Radio! We spoke with Ace Hartmann about their setup, what listeners can expect to hear, and the station's favorite songs. Check out the interview below!
What brought you to Live365?
My first run with Racketeer Radio was a few years ago, but after a year or so, I had to close production due to fast rising licensing costs and fees. Years down the line, I still have this untapped passion and urge to run Racketeer Radio and after searching, price checking, and comparing, Live365 offers the best rates where I can do what I am passionate about and focus on Racketeer Radio, not the fees and licenses.
What's your studio like?
My studio is in my home and it's very simple and easy. I use Spacial's SAM Broadcaster to run my programs through my laptop. From there, I use a Behringer Xenyx 802 Premium 8-Input 2-Bus Mixer where my MXL V900D Dynamic Microphone is connected to record.
What can listeners expect when they tune in to your station?
When you tune into Racketeer Radio, expect to be thrown into a new time where the 2020s meets the Golden Age to bring The New Golden Age, The Vintage Revival, The Nostalgic Culture. Racketeer Radio brings the best of the 1920s-1950s with the best of today, keeping the Golden Age lifestyle alive! We have music, news, updates, quiz shows, hard-boiled crimes, stories from Hollywoodland, and so much more!
What has been your favorite moment as a DJ/Station Manager so far?
The best part is meeting and working with so many great DJs and musicians from around the world and seeing their passions come to light on Racketeer Radio.
What is the best concert you've ever attended, and why?
The best would have to be in a little club here in Seattle that no longer exists, but I watched The Kings of Nuthin’ tear it up! Piano on fire, trumpet blowing fire, and vocalist standing on the standup bass. They were just having a blast, which made us all have a blast! By far one of the most memorable shows for my friends and I.
What artist (dead or alive) would you love to see live, but haven't had the chance to see?
Cab Calloway, Frank Sinatra, Benny Goodman, Billie Holiday...there are so many.
We asked for some of the station's favorite songs. Here's what they had to say!
Let's go with artists instead of songs, here are the top six artists to check out in 2020:
- Royal Crown Revue
- Natty Congeroo and The Flames of Rhythm
- Sundae and Mr. Goessl
- Jack's Cats
- Louis Prima Jr.
- The Jazz Cartel
