Lionel Richie Musical 'All Night Long' in Development at Disney

Lionel Richie and Walt Disney Studios are working together on a new movie musical based on Richie’s song catalog, according to Variety.

Tentatively titled All Night Long, the live-action project is expected to utilize some of his greatest hits and will be more like the ABBA-inspired Mamma Mia! as opposed to a biopic-style film like Rocketman and Bohemian Rhapsody.

Richie originally pitched the idea to the studio and they decided to move forward with it in January. The film is in the early stages of development with Richie and his manager Bruce Eskowitz producing the project alongside Cavalry Media executives Dana Brunetti and Matt Del Piano. Screenwriter Pete Chiarelli, who wrote Crazy Rich Asians as well as The Proposal, is currently working on the script.

Richie confirmed the news on Twitter, sharing the Variety piece and saying, “Big things in the works!”
