Nirvana Manager to Release New Book ‘Serving the Servant: Remembering Kurt Cobain’
Danny Goldberg, one of Nirvana’s managers from 1990 to 1994, is releasing a book entitled Serving the Servant: Remembering Kurt Cobain that shares his memories with Cobain and the band. The book, which will be released on April 2 via HarperCollins’ Ecco Press imprint, comes on the 25th anniversary of Cobain's death.
Goldberg draws from his personal memories, unreleased files, as well as interviews with Cobain’s family, friends, and former bandmates. Serving the Servant touches on some of the key moments Goldberg shared with Cobain, including Cobain and Love’s relationship and marriage, the birth of their daughter, Frances Bean, and Cobain’s struggles with addiction.
Serving the Servant has already received some praise for its passion, insight, honesty, and empathy.
Sonic Youth’s Thurston Moore said, “While providing an intimate view of the support system the band had from a world their scene was historically at odds with, Goldberg shares what is essentially the story of two men, a generation apart, who became unexpected friends through a mutual appreciation of feminism, LGBT rights, and a dedication to the activist power of music. It is a contemplative requiem to losing someone you love who immeasurably touched the entire planet with a singular magic."
