Phish Move New Year's Eve Show Online with 'Dinner and a Movie' Livestream

Phish have had to cancel their New Year’s Eve run of shows at New York’s Madison Square Garden due to the rapidly spreading Omicron variant of COVID-19. While their MSG appearances are now rescheduled for April, the band is offering another plan for New Year's Eve: a free livestream broadcast from the Ninth Cube.

“Phish Radio & @SiriusXM present Dinner And A Movie: Live from the Ninth Cube! Phish will perform three full sets this New Year’s Eve, LIVE from the Ninth Cube,” the band wrote in an Instagram message announcing their new plans for Friday night. “The show will be performed without an audience and will be webcast for free on Phish’s YouTube channel and LivePhish.com, with a simulcast on Phish Radio on SiriusXM. Phish will take the stage promptly at 8:30PM ET on December 31st.”

The livestream is the latest edition of Phish's Dinner and a Movie shows, where the members of the group choose recipes to go along with the music they play. Life has given lemons to Phish, so the New Year's Eve livestream will feature singer/guitarist Trey Anastasio’s recipes for all things lemon-related: a whole roasted chicken with lemon, a lemon pasta vegetarian entrée, lemon bars for dessert, and of course, lemonade.

Since the start of the pandemic, the special series has raised nearly $900,000 for the band's WaterWheel Foundation, which has distributed the funds to non-profits around the country.

“Our friends at @SiriusXM have generously underwritten production costs to make this webcast free, and we are hoping to come together once again as a community to support those in need,” the band added in their social media announcement. “We will also have three limited edition posters available from the original Garden run for sale beginning this Thursday via Phish Dry Goods, along with some additional event merch. Proceeds from these poster sales will be donated to The WaterWheel Foundation.”

Tickets for the original MSG shows will be honored at the new spring dates (April 20-23), and refunds will be available for those who cannot attend. The NYE livestream will take place at 8:30pm ET on December 31 on Phish’s YouTube channel and LivePhish.com. Limited-edition posters and other merch supporting The WaterWheel Foundation go on sale tomorrow (December 30) here.
