“It’s been on my bucket list for a long time,” Usher said in a new interview with Zane Lowe on Apple Music 1. “I’ve been asked many a times, ‘What are the benchmarks or what are the things that matter most to you?’ Obviously performing, but being able to perform on that stage because so many amazing performers have graced it and did an amazing job. Of course, the obsession of that starts, but, man, the excitement of this moment and being able to savor this moment. You remember the first time you heard your record on the radio. This is like that for me.”

Usher also revealed to Lowe that he'll do more than sing live on Super Bowl Sunday. On February 11, he'll also drop a new album called Coming Home. He's described the album as, “a love letter once again to the legacy of [his] career.” He continued: “You know, I’ve been coming home in a lot of different ways. The choice of music and reconnection to some of the people that I’ve worked with from my past. And I always wanted to work with writers that I’ve actually made hit number one records with. In a sense, I’m coming home because I'm in that comfortable space. When you're at home, you're comfortable. When you’re at home, you feel connected, elevate, rise and inspire.”

To accompany the news of Usher's performance, multiple announcement videos have been released. They feature various celebrities relaying the info to a young Usher on the phone. The footage of Usher comes from the opening of his "Confessions Pt. II" music video. Celebrities featured in Apple's promos include Kim Kardashian, Marshawn Lynch, Deion Sanders, Odell Beckham Jr., and even future Usher himself!
