The outing is part of both bands’ respective farewell tours. The plans for the expedition first took shape when they appeared together at SNL’s 50th anniversary celebration earlier this year. In a press release obtained by Consequence, members of the groups explained how the tour came to fruition.
“When both of our bands performed at the recent SNL50 concert at Radio City, we started talking and agreed we had to do these shows” explained The B52s’ Cindy Wilson. “Believe or not, we’ve never done more than a festival or two together in all this time. This will be amazing and I can’t wait for The B-52s to share these stages with Devo!”
“The B-52s had one of the best sounds of any of the bands out there in the late 70’s early 80’s – ‘Rock Lobster’ is one of my favorite songs – DEVO used to sing it to Booji Boy after DEVO shows,” added DEVO’s Mark Mothersbaugh. “It was either fate or luck or the SNL anniversary that brought us all together to create this amazing chance to go out on tour. All I can say is Cosmic Devolution is REAL!”
A Live Nation ticket pre-sale begins tomorrow, June 18, at 10 a.m. local time via Ticketmaster (use code TREBLE), with a public on-sale following this Friday, June 20 at 10 a.m. local time.
Prior to their joint outing with The B-52s, DEVO have several solo headlining shows scheduled for the summer, as well as festival appearances and a date supporting My Chemical Romance at Soldier Fielder in Chicago (you can get tickets here). As for the B-52s, the group first announced their farewell tour back in 2022. From 2023 to 2025, they have played various shows in Las Vegas. They also cancelled a White House performance in 2023, and member Kate Pierson released her solo album Radios and Rainbows in 2024.
