'Gangnam Style' Singer Psy to Release First New Music in 5 Years
After a five-year hiatus, South Korean singer Psy, best known for this 2013 crossover dance hit "Gangnam Style," will be returning with new music. His ninth full-length album Psy 9th will be arriving later this month.
Earlier today (April 12), the 44-year-old musician posted to Instagram with the news. The album will be released on April 29 at 6pm KST. Alongside the news, he also shared a clip from a 2013 concert.
In the clip, Psy says: “To be honest, I produced ‘Champion’ in 2002, and it took me exactly ten years to produce a song that is more sensational than that. ‘Gangnam Style’ was released in 2012. I guess what I’m trying to say is that perhaps the next time you’ll meet a song like ‘Gangnam Style’ will be in 2022.”
Psy’s last studio album was 2017’s Psy 8th 4X2=8, which featured dual lead singles "I Luv It" and "New Face." In 2019, Psy established his own record label P Nation, which now represents Korean acts like Jessi, HyunA, and DAWN.
