The Music Scout (Alternative) - November 2024

Author: Jay Goldberg

The sneak peek from last month is here! For that reason, I'm forgoing introducing an indie artist this month. Instead, I will feature an album from a known band that many won't know, but has some excellent songs.

I am testing something a little different in the syndicated show arena. Radio stations can get an mp3 of talking points, and then add the music they want to the back-end of the show. The first show I have for stations to request the mp3 file for is "Rock Music History for January 1970."  The talking points include a brief summary of that point in time in rock music, a calendar of key news events impacting rock music, songs in the Top 40, songs new to the Top 40 that month, songs dropping out of the Top 40 that month, top albums that month, and key albums released that month. You can add music associated with any of the material covered: from the news, the singles, and/or the albums. If there is a demand for this, I will produce more mp3 files by month by year.

Listen to a demo show here (the file that you will get is approximately the first 8:54 of the show – I added music to give a sample of what can be done). The beauty of this strategy is that every Rock Music History Show will be unique to each station since it will contain different music.

At the webpage listed above you will find a link to request the file and an important message regarding the project. Please read it. It basically asks stations interested in doing this to always get the file from me (no copies from other sources), and to let me know when you play the show. You will notice that it is a lot of work in terms of research and putting it all together. I need to get numbers to try to get a sponsor(s). Thanks in advance.

The album I will feature in this column is Grafitti Soul by Simple Minds from 2009.
