Wet Leg, Latto, Omar Apollo & More Nominated for Best New Artist at 2023 Grammys

The Best New Artist nominees for the 2023 Grammy Awards have been announced. Wet Leg, Latto, Omar Apollo, Domi & JD Beck, Anitta, Måneskin, Molly Tuttle, Muni Long, Samara Joy, and Tobe Nwigwe are all the acts in the running.

The Recording Academy has explained the somewhat nebulous Best New Artist category can include any artist who, during the eligibility year, released a recording that established their public identity. The nominees this year don't exactly have the same clout as recent Best New Artist winners (like Billie Eilish, Dua Lipa, Megan Thee Stallion, and Olivia Rodrigo), but they all have released albums and songs that have catapulted them further into the public eye.

In 2022, Omar Apollo released Ivory. Wet Leg released their self-titled debut, which was nominated for this year's Mercury Prize. They've also had success thanks to their single "Wet Dream". Latto shared 777, featuring the breakout hit “Big Energy”. Domi & JD Beck shared Not Tight, and Anitta issued Versions of Me and a deluxe edition of the album.

Furthermore, Molly Tuttle gained recognition for her 2022 album Crooked Tree, Muni Long released Public Displays of Affection: the Album, Samara Joy dropped Linger Awhile, and Tobe Nwige shared the LP MoMINTs. Italy’s Måneskin, who won Eurovision Song Contest 2021, is perhaps the only act without a 2022 album to view. However, they are releasing a record called Rush! on January 20, 2023. They've also had recent success with the song "THE LONELIEST".

The 2023 Grammy Awards are scheduled to take place on Sunday, February 5, at Los Angeles’ Crypto.com Arena.
