For 35+ years, JOY99 has been West Michigan’s source for Contemporary Christian music. It started with a vision to provide a more Contemporary Christian music station with little to no teaching programs. It was also decided at that time that JOY99 would be a local for-profit commercial supported station. We wanted to be funded by the local businesses, not our listeners, for operating expenses allowing listeners to support non-profit organizations. We have never tallied it up, but a conservative estimate would say that JOY99 listeners have given more than 3 million dollars to nonprofits over that time through on-air fundraising campaigns.
