Animal Collective Release New Song 'Prester John' Ahead of Upcoming LP
Experimental pop band Animal Collective have new details to share about their eleventh studio album Time Skiffs. It will be out February 4, 2022 via Domino, and the lead single, "Prester John," has been released.
Time Skiffs follows the band’s last record, 2016’s Painting With. Animal Collective have also shared three EPs since the release of their last studio album: The Painters and Meeting Of The Waters from 2017, and Bridge To Quiet, which arrived in 2020.
A press release about Time Skiffs states: “These nine songs are love letters, distress signals, en plein air observations, and relaxation hymns, the collected transmissions of four people who have grown into relationships and parenthood and adult worry. But they are rendered with Animal Collective’s singular sense of exploratory wonder, same as they ever were.”
As for the lead single, "Prester John" was dropped yesterday (October 20) and was written by fusing two songs together. One was written by band member Avey Tare and the other by bandmate Panda Bear. “Prester John” seemingly takes its title from the name of the mythical medieval figure, who ruled over a Christian nation outside Western Europe.
The new track also comes with a psychedelic music video that sees the band playing their instruments amid a vine-heavy environment while a dazzling light show streams across their faces. The visual was directed by Jason Lester.
Finally, the group is set to head out on a U.S. tour in promotion of the upcoming album. Starting in March, they'll be heading to locations such as Philadelphia, Brooklyn, Chicago, Nashville, and Atlanta. Tickets go on sale tomorrow (October 22) via Ticketmaster.
Time Skiffs is now available for pre-order. CDs, digital copies, and a limited edition 2xLP on starburst ruby and black vinyl are currently available for pre-order.
