Avicii's Life Honored with Google Doodle

Have you checked out the new Google Doodle on the homepage today? In honor of Avicii's life, legacy, and 32nd birthday, Google has made their Doodle for September 8 a touching illustration of the late Swedish DJ.

The drawing of the Swedish EDM star, born Tim Bergling, is available to view in more than 46 countries. Clicking the Doodle prompts a heartfelt animated video of the DJ's life - all soundtracked to 2013's "Wake Me Up."

Doodle artists Alyssa Winans, Olivia When, and Sophie Diao created the experience: an homage which compresses music, memories and mental health into a 90-second clip. It also coincides with National Suicide Prevention Week.

“The truth is Tim struggled a great deal during the touring part of his adulthood, and I wanted to find a way to both touch on the realities of that experience, while still celebrating and honouring his life in a way that fit the lyrics and tone of the track,” Winans revealed in an interview with Consequence Of Sound.

“I ultimately decided to spend the majority of the video on the aspects of his life he loved, with a few symbolic moments to allude to some of the more emotionally challenging experiences.”

Avicii’s father, Klas Bergling, added: “The Doodle is fantastic, my family and I feel honoured and Tim would have been very proud and love it.”

“It is a friendly and warm story of a young man fulfilling his dream to be a DJ and at the same time telling us that our journey in life is not always easy despite fame and fortune.”

Shortly after his passing, Bergling’s family launched a mental health and suicide prevention foundation called The Tim Bergling Foundation to “honor his memory and continue to act in his spirit” by uplifting others when they need help most.

In 2019, the family also officially released TIM, the posthumous Avicii album and follow-up to his 2015 full-length Stories. Bergling had completed several of the 12 tracks on the album including “Heaven,” which Bergling and Coldplay’s Chris Martin wrote and recorded in 2014.

Even more, an official biography honoring Tim's life is set to be published this fall by Little, Brown Book Group. It was created by journalist Måns Mosesson, and proceeds from the book will go to the Tim Bergling Foundation.
