Beatles' Beloved Rooftop Concert to Play in IMAX Theaters
Many have already sat through Peter Jackson's bombshell Beatles documentary series Get Back on Disney+. Now, the band's full rooftop concert at their Apple Corps headquarters in London will get a limited theatrical release in IMAX later this month.
The 60-minute feature will premiere in IMAX theaters for one night only on January 30: 53 years since the Beatles staged their final public appearance. While the full concert can already be found within Jackson's docuseries, theatergoers will be treated to remastered and optimized footage and audio for IMAX.
Following the concert film, Jackson will participate in a special Q&A session, which will be broadcast via satellite to all participating IMAX theaters. After the January 30 IMAX premiere, the rooftop concert will get an additional theatrical release - February 11 through 13.
“I’m thrilled that the rooftop concert from The Beatles: Get Back is going to be experienced in IMAX, on that huge screen,” Jackson said in a statement. “It’s The Beatles’ last concert, and it’s the absolute perfect way to see and hear it.”
Get Back made its big debut last November after Jackson spent several years restoring and editing together 60 hours of footage accumulated during the chaotic Get Back Sessions: all during the production of Michael Lindsay-Hogg’s original Let It Be film. The critically-acclaimed Get Back will be released on Blu-ray and DVD in the United States on February 8.
