Britney Spears to Return to Music with Elton John Duet 'Hold Me Closer'

Britney Spears is making her return to music with a new collaboration with none other than Elton John.

While a release date for their upcoming duet, "Hold Me Closer," has not been officially announced yet, it's anticipated to be released August 19. John confirmed the team-up by posting artwork on social media earlier this week. It features the title and a rocket emoji and red rose – symbols used by each of the artists. A pre-save link for the track is also available.

The confirmation of the new song follows a recent Page Six report that the artists had recorded a duet of his 1971 classic “Tiny Dancer.” It’s unclear if the new single interpolates the song (similar to John's "Cold Heart (PNAU Remix)" with Dua Lipa), although it appears likely given the song title's use of "Tiny Dancer" lyrics.

The upcoming track is the first taste of music from Spears since her 13-year conservatorship ended last November. Spears' last release of new original music was her 2016 LP Glory.

As for John, he released his collaboration-filled album The Lockdown Sessions back in October 2021, which featured Dua Lipa, Rina Sawayama, Metallica, and more.
