Featured Spotlight Station: Liberty Radio Texas
Live365's "Featured Spotlight Station" this week is Liberty Radio Texas! We spoke with DJ Jeff about their setup, what listeners can expect to hear, and the station's favorite songs. Check out the interview below!
What brought you to Live365?
We came to Live365 because of the ability to include licensing with the streaming service, rather than paying for them separately.
What's your studio like?
We use a variety of laptops, two Windows PCs, and a Mackie ProFX 2. We have two travel mics for live remote broadcasts, LiveDJ gigs, and karaoke, with two Mackie Boosted Speakers. In studio, we have two arm-mounted mics, and Beats headphones work best for us.
What can listeners expect when they tune in to your station?
We like to say we have variety as big as Texas. So, that's a lot of variety. We feature rock, pop, and country from the 80s to today. Each day, we have a special program:
- Monday nights: "Monday Night Soft Rock"
- Wednesday evenings: "Western Wednesday" is when we go all country for a few hours.
- Friday afternoons: "Pop Goes Friday" provides an upbeat end to the week.
- Late Saturday night/early Sunday morning: "Sat Nite Club Retro" gives an old school club mix.
- Sunday afternoons: "Sunday Golden Oldies"
- Sunday nights: "Sunday Night Burn Out" is when we run classic alternative and new wave hits.
In addition, we have DJ Jeff's "Live Lunchbox" every weekday at noon, which is a themed show with countdowns of the week's top 40 from a different year in history. We also provide celebrity birthdays, weather, and pop culture/historical "This Day in History" references. And, if that isn't big enough, we carry The Tom Woods Show, The Spud Goodman Show, and a local libertarian podcast called The Liberty Line. We like to pack a whole lot of Texas into our little station.
What has been your favorite moment as a DJ/Station Manager so far?
Overall, the best part is meeting folks from all around the world who either tweet or email us telling us how much they truly enjoy our station. For me personally, I enjoy interacting with new independent artists I've never heard of before, and it's always nice to have some of our established old school artists reach out to us, from Lisa Lisa to Debbie Deb to Rozalla. And, there's nothing quite like doing live remote broadcasts at local community events and seeing both young and old dancing and enjoying music together. We like to say we have something for everyone because with so much variety, we're bound to play something that will have you saying "I love this song too."
What is the best concert you've ever attended, and why?
Michael Jackson and his brothers back in the early 80s, no doubt. The show was so advanced for its time with special effects, and he was flawless.
What artist (dead or alive) would you love to see live, but haven't had the chance to?
So many. One reason I started this station was because my music tastes are so diverse, so much so that my friends made jokes about it. So, I built a station on it. Some artists that come to mind are: Dan Fogelberg, Air Supply, Dead or Alive, The Smiths, Rage Against The Machine, Violent Femmes, and Garth Brooks.
We asked for some of the station's favorite songs. Here's what they had to say!
- You Spin Me Round (Like A Record) - Dead or Alive
- It's A Sin - Pet Shop Boys
- Enjoy The Silence - Depeche Mode
- Add It Up - Violent Femmes
- Whole Lotta Love - Led Zeppelin
- Me And Bobby McGee - Janis Joplin
- How Soon Is Now? - The Smiths
- I'm Your Man - Wham!
- Away - The Bolshoi
- I Keep Forgettin' (Every Time You're Near) - Michael McDonald
