Lady Gaga Releases New Song 'Hold My Hand'
Lady Gaga has shared a new song called "Hold My Hand" that was created for the new Tom Cruise movie Top Gun: Maverick – which will premiere May 27.
Produced by Gaga and BloodPop® with assistance from Benjamin Rice, "Hold My Hand" will play during Top Gun: Maverick's end credits. Gaga has been "working on it for years,” and shared the song's album art with fans last week. According to Genius, the powerful and dramatic ballad was partly inspired by the nostalgic 80s sound from the original film’s soundtrack.
Rumors about Gaga recording an original Top Gun song have been ongoing for a few years. The first to report Lady Gaga had been selected to write the theme song for the film was Rob Thomas, who revealed during a live show in 2020 that Gaga had replaced him in the task.
Following that, in April 2022, a movie enthusiast shared pictures of a poster advertising the film. On the poster, Gaga’s name appeared next to Hans Zimmer's and Harold Faltermeyer’s - thus confirming the rumors. Gaga eventually publicly acknowledged “Hold My Hand” on April 25, when she tweeted lyrics that included the title of the track. Two days later, she revealed the song's album artwork.

Gaga's new Top Gun song is a big deal, considering her success with her previous songs made for films. In 2019, she won the Academy Award for Best Original Song for A Star Is Born’s “Shallow,” and she was nominated for Best Original Song at the 2016 Oscars for “Til It Happens to You.”
In other Gaga news, the superstar recently performed “Love for Sale” and “Do I Love You” from her duets album with Tony Bennett at the 2022 GRAMMY Awards.
