Phoebe Bridgers Pays Tribute to Bruce Springsteen with Cover of 'Stolen Car'
Last night (June 13), Phoebe Bridgers went down to the New Jersey shore to play at the historic Stone Pony in Asbury Park. Since Bridgers was on Bruce Springsteen's home turf, she decided to do a cover of his 1980 song "Stolen Car" for the crowd.
The last time Bridgers was in Asbury Park, back in 2018, she covered the Boss' “I’m On Fire.” Bridgers performed her new Springsteen cover during the show's encore, right after wrapping her 16-song set up with her Punisher track "I Know the End."
"Just like, screamed my guts out and now I'm gonna sing this, so..." she joked to the crowd.
Bridger's version of "Stolen Car" was even more somber than Bruce's typical melancholy rendition. "I also lay between favorite Bruce songs, and um, this is my favorite right now," Phoebe explained before her performance, "I'm kinda gonna do kind of like, the Patty Griffin version, 'cause it's one of my favorites."
Bridgers is still on her Reunion Tour to support her album Punisher. She's been travelling through North America since April for her tour's second leg, and has 13 more shows to cross off her list. Tonight and tomorrow night (June 14 and 15) she will be playing in Brooklyn, NY before wrapping up the first half of her tour in Queens on June 16. After a July run through Europe, Bridgers will pick her North American tour back up in August with shows in California, Washington, British Columbia, Iowa, and Oregon.
Bridgers has featured several opening acts on her tour, some being from her label, Saddest Factory Records. Previous and future acts include Muna, Christian Lee Hutson, Bartees Strange, Matty Healy, and more. Claud (who is signed to Saddest Factory) performed in Asbury last night and it was their last show with the tour. Tickets to the Reunion Tour are still available on Ticketmaster.
