Tegan and Sara Prep New Album 'Crybaby' & Tour
Musical sisters Tegan and Sara are prepping the release of their 10th studio album Crybaby. They've also got a North American tour with special guest Tomberlin up their sleeves.
Crybaby, out October 21 via Mom+Pop Music, will be Tegan and Sara’s first album of all-new material since 2019’s Hey, I’m Just Like You. The Quin sisters co-produced Crybaby with John Congleton at Studio Litho in Seattle and Sargent Recorders in Los Angeles.
Regarding the album creation process, the sisters said in a statement: “This was the first time where, while we were still drafting our demos, we were thinking about how the songs were going to work together,” Tegan said. “It wasn’t even just that Sara was making lyric changes or reorganizing the parts to my songs, it was that she was also saying to me, ‘This song is going to be faster,’ or ‘It’s going to be in a different key.’ But Sara effectively improves everything of mine that she works on.” Sara added, “Maybe I am the renovator. I’m the house-flipper of the Tegan and Sara band.”
Ahead of the album, a new single and video titled “Yellow” has been released. Sara said the song “was written after we began to take steps to heal the bruises we have both carried with us since adolescence and early adulthood — wounds that never quite healed right and flare up seasonally, sending us spiraling backward in time. Are we doomed to remain forever 15, breaking up and breaking apart? I hope not.” The duo shot the track’s music video in Vancouver and the visual style is an homage to Coldplay's iconic video for their track of the same name.
As for the sisters' tour, it begins on October 26 in Philadelphia. The 19-date trek includes stops in Boston, Cleveland, Denver, San Diego, and Portland, with a final hometown show in Vancouver on November 20. A fan presale begins today (July 13) with a Live Nation pre-sale following tomorrow, July 14. The general on-sale then follows on Friday, July 15 via Ticketmaster.
In other Tegan and Sara news, the duo released a reimagined version of their 2004 breakout album So Jealous back in February. Afterwards, they marked a new deal with Mom+Pop with the April single “F---ing Up What Matters” which will appear on Crybaby. The video for that song featured Railey and Seazynn Gilliland: two TikTok stars who will soon play younger versions of the Quin sisters in the artists’ coming-of-age series High School.
