Tems Delivers 'Avoid Things' Performance on 'Kimmel'
Alternative R&B singer-songwriter Tems was the musical guest on last night’s episode of Jimmy Kimmel Live (September 29). The Lagos-based artist sang her single “Avoid Things” from her new EP If Orange Was a Place.
In the performance, Tems sings the tropical-tinged song in a bright spotlight while her band and backup singers are bathed in an orange glow behind her. The up-and-coming singer's appearance on Kimmel follows two recent collaborations. Tems was featured on Drake's Certified Lover Boy on the song "Fountains," and appeared on Wizkid track "Essence" from his album Made in Lagos.
If Orange Was a Place, which also features the single “Crazy Tings,” is the follow-up to For Broken Ears, her September 2020 debut EP. The new EP was heavily produced by Ghanian producer GuiltyBeatz, who has a special knack for African dance music.
Right now, Tems is on a small United States outing, having just performed at New York City’s Sounds of Brazil and Afropunk Atlanta. Additionally, in a recent interview with The Guardian, the Nigerian singer revealed that another collab with Drake is in the works, and it will likely appear on Tems’ debut album that's expected to arrive in 2022.
“Everything is special about Tems,” Wizkid told Rolling Stone last month, “Everything.”
